Bought this set about 3 months ago and it was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Soft, thick badger hair brush that lathers up shaving soap nicely. I had an older cheap brush with thick bristles that took a long time to lather shaving soap. This one holds a nice amount of water and has very fine dense bristles that lather great. Nice heavy razor that is balanced and fits in the hand nicely. I don’t use the soap cup much, because I use a soft soap to lather and shave. Looks nice and has held up to everyday shaving. Would definitely recommend.[keyword]shaving+kit[/keyword][yahooquestion]shaving+kit[/yahooquestion]

I’m very happy with this bag and in fact, it’s a much nicer material than it looks in the photographs, so I concur with the Dec 07 review from another buyer in that sense, but I also agree that it should have had more pockets and more ability to separate different items. There isn’t even a partition. Overall an excellent shaving/dop kit, but wish there was a more organized design on the inside.
this is a great bag, I bought it for my boyfriend, it is very nice looking, the pictures don’t do it justice. The material looks just like leather and it is very soft. The zipper is well made and opens up the entire top so you can really rummage around in there.
My only problem with it is that it doesn’t have little compartments inside to hold things separate from each other.
I was gullible and thought that people who literally wrote the book on how to shave and had numerous specialty shaving shops around must make good products. In fact, I wasn’t gullible. I was just plain stupid.
The products are not horrible, but they are over-priced and far from top-rate.
The pre-shave oil is pretty much a waste. Warm water works just as good to prepare your face, and is a lot easier to clean up.
The shaving brush starts falling apart at first use, leaving bristles on your face and around the sink. The shaving cream and after-shave balm both seem good, but not worth the annoyance of the other two products.
The razor I got at the same time as this kit is still a good one and I like the weight and balance, but I’m going to avoid “Art of Shaving” products in general in the future.
OK folks, this is a relatively low quality starter kit from a really decent company. The Art of Shaving products in general are really nice, albeit a tad pricey. This small kit gives you a nice sample of an entire line of shaving products that work nicely together. The full sized items will cost you about $75 – $100 total.
The included brush is a “toss away” quality brush. This is not just my opinion, but a quote from the manager at an Art of Shaving store. My advice is to get some samples from a department store, then purchase the Art of Shaving shave cream (wow! a great product) here on Amazon, plus either the Tweezerman Badger Brush for $15 or a Best Badger Brush from Crabtree & Evelyn for $35.
I bought one of these kits for each of my teenage sons and they actually use it! It ;eaves their skin very smooth and seems to help give them a very close shave. There is absolutely no scent and it doesn’t irritate their skin. Boar-bristle brush is a bit smaller than standard size but not too small to use. I’d buy it again!
I have a fairly thick beard that grows back pretty quickly. Also since I shave pretty often I figured I’d like to try to step up from the simple shave cream you pick up at Target and such. Also I use a Fusion razor.
All that being said, this starter set is a perfect option for those who want a lot more quality for their buck and don’t want to pay for the full size kit yet. The badger brush alone makes this set worth it.
Onto the shave. It is fantastic. Hands down amazing. I think its a big part because of the preshave oil, but either way, it is excellent. I get far fewer nicks and razor burn after shaving and my face would put a baby’s bottom to shame.
I am absolutely glad I picked up this kit.
This stuff is the best thing to ever happen to me. For a guy that gets razor bump like crazy this stuff sure comes in handy. I came across west shaving and decided to give that a shot rather than spend money on expensive razor bump products and must say that you have everything to get the perfect shave in this kit. I will also like to add that the shaving cream is a bit expensive , BUT you use so little it’s unbelievable , all you have to do is semi dip the brush into it and you are good for a great shave and can re-apply a few times over. I must say that the pre shave oil smells a bit funky and the badger brush smells odd at first since it is animal hair as well as any brush for that matter but you will not be dissapointed!!! I will NEVER go back to the Gillette canned stuff!
This brush is a noticeable improvement over the cheap brush I bought at the grocery store. This brush is so much softer and doesn’t shed like an old dog. I don’t know if it really improves the effectiveness of my shave but it definitely improves the quality of the experience.
No “shedding” so far. Only brush I’ve ever tried, for $ I’m satisfied. Holds enough water to get a good lather going.
update:
@12 shaves lost first hair, but is holding up since. expecting to get at least 6-9 months out of the brush, with almost daily usage. time will tell.
this completed the set My son got his razor and the soap and the brush to use it is very well made and will last a long time
APPERANTLY I HAVEN’T DONE MY RESEARCH RIGH, I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD BRUSH FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR SO,SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST BRUSH AND I DIDN’T WANT TO GET AN EXPENSIVE ONE AT THIS STAGE. THE PRICE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF, LOOSES HAIR RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, AND WHEN SHAVING IT LEAVES HAIR ON YOUR FACE, IT ALSO STUNCK LIKE A RUBBER OR SOMETHING. I DON’T KNOW, MAYBE THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE FIRST- SECOND USE (BUT I DOUBT IT). SO I’M PROBABLY GOING TO GO WITH A HIGHET QUALITY BRUSH.
I bought this brush a few months ago and I’d give it a mixed review. This brush is cheap, plain and simple. There are MUCH better brushes out there that will last longer. Mine has been shedding every time i use it for its entire life. Spend the extra money and get a nicer brush. Also, i would HIGHLY recommend getting a brush/safety razor stand to let the brush dry correctly. If you haven’t tried a mink brush with shave soap, your in for a treat.
This set was a hit with my Dad.
He used to have a shaving set when I was younger, with the Badger Brush..and I would sit with him in the bathroom, watching him later up his face and make silly faces while putting it on and shaving.. I’m 28 now and would probably sit and watch him do it again if I could.
He was impressed at the whole set and loved the chrome look.
The brush fits nicely in your hand and has some weight to it. Which is a good thing.
I highly recommend this product. Great looking and at a great price!

Gave this to my husband for his B-day. He loves it – so far no problems. Brush is nice and heavy, actually everything has a good “heft” to it. Nice gift.
Anyone surprised-this is the kind of thing that has to stop. Does the jerk who got the seat from hair brush boy get to keep the seat until then?
I’m going to have to try that….now that I have a spare handle from a shedding VDH brush.
I can't do without my electric shaving kit! without shaving I add typically 20 years to my face!
Actually that does work. I don't have problems shaving my legs but my brother was shaving his face and his skin would get really dry so he started using my conditioner and it's made his face softer.
I use a shave GEL not a cream that works very well and it has Baby oil in it. This makes my legs ultra soft. It's called Envi Shave Gel… I get it at Wal-marts, it's in a pink container.
Maybe you should soften your skin before hand. Like the night before you shave apply baby oil or baby oil gel or even Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly). All of those items will make your skin softer which should help the pores that your leg hair grows out of. And of course EVERY TIME that you shave you need to apply lotion, or one of the items I mentioned earlier. Technically you should do it everyday but at least every time after you shave.
And of course if you continue to still have problems you should probably see a Dermatologist
Good luck.
Edit: oh and I forgot to add… Those bumps could possibly be ingrown hairs or razor burn. More then likely ingrown hairs though. Try exfoliateing (My favorite exfoliant is Victoria Secrets Body Scrub, it smells delicious and it works wonders) the day AFTER you shave and that should dramatically reduce them.
We had a loud thunderstorm last night and I just bark at the thunder. Mom says it is not going hurt me and has stopped cuddling me during a thunderstorm because she said that if she keeps doing that I will continue to be afraid and that it is time for me to grow up and get over it! Boy, mom can be mean sometimes.
Yesterday she took me and Mollie to the groomer and told him to give us our summer cut, it looks more like a summer shave! But it sure is a lot cooler and she isn't constantly picking the grass out of my hair, and I run when I see the hair brush being picked up, so I guess I will enjoy being bald like my dad and Uncle Art! Jeezus dude….stop trying to be ghetto. Really! Just put the camera down and save us the grief already. Amazing how all of us already knew the story but yet it took you an entire 4 MINUTES to tell a very simple story which could take less than 30 seconds.
Am I The Only One That Use Soap Instead Of Shaving Cream When I Shave My Legs??? #dontjudgeme

"Anyways, my wife got me started with a most excellent shaving soap called Col. Conk’s. It was Amber scented but since I haven’t seen Amber since I was in a high school, I couldn’t be entirely sure³."
Shaving Set Stand☆
Hi Cameron,
I think it depends on how often you shower. Since I have to shave every day, it would be incredibly drying for me to use soap to shave. I mean, lotion just wouldn't even make the grade after a few days of shaving with soap. Soap helps lessen the friction between the razor and your skin, but it dries you out. Oil lessens the friction but moisturizes, so for me, this seems like a no-brainer.
For shaving, I also will rotate a facial scrub in, like St. Ives Apricot scrub, every few days. The exfoliation you get from shaving with a scrub is pretty much unmatched as far as I can tell, and St. Ives doesn't lather, so it doesn't have that Sodium-Laureth-Sulphate drying factor. It's also GREAT for preventing and treating ingrown hairs, especially the kind that includes salicylic acid.
So if you don't SHAVE as frequently I think is not the issue; it's more about how often you shower, and how dirty you get. I think soap is a more thorough cleanser, so if you're really nasty, then soap is the way to go for all-over cleansing. But you could still, after lathering up and rinsing off, shave with something like a conditioner or body oil.
Would using oil to shave, rather than soap, work for everyone? I can't speak for everyone, but skin is skin (unless you're dealing with some kind of ailment). Dry skin kinda sucks; it flakes, it's itchy, it has a tendency to crack (yikes); and if soap dries skin out, doesn't it make sense to use something that doesn't?
Also, like I mentioned, I oil up before the shower to soften the hairs; I also have a cleansing body oil that I use in the shower to shave, or I shave with conditioner. I'll be posting the details when I post Part 2 of Getting Ready for Work.
Good questions!
